Hello and Welcome to Thrasher's Kindergarten!

The big “K” year is right around the corner.

Welcome to the Kindergarten at Thrasher! We are looking forward to a great 2021-2022 school year. The Kindergarten teachers are Elizabeth Holmes, Maddy Easterly, Megan Methvin and Emily Wheeler. We are in the process of planning many engaging and rigorous activities for your children this year. You will watch your child grow so much. They will learn to read, write sentences, add, subtract and problem solve. It will be a very exciting adventure!

In order for this to be a successful school year, communication is key. We encourage you to be involved in your child’s education at home and at school. Please work on independence and the tasks listed on this Kindergarten Readiness Checklist.

We will have a casual Kindergarten Social during Registration Day on August 6th. This will be a chance for you to meet us and other friends coming to Kindergarten. We will also update you with Kindergarten information, assign phase in days, and answer any questions you may have.

The first days of school for Kindergarten look a little different than other grades. Hamilton County uses a “Phase-In” approach. This will give students the opportunity to come to school in smaller groups and learn procedures and expectations of school. This also gives teachers the opportunity to get to know students before placing them in homeroom classes. We have placed your child in one of two groups. They will attend school either 8/12 OR 8/13 and 8/17 OR 8/18. Please note that your child will not be placed in a home room until August 16th.  See schedule below.

Please note that Phase In Days are full school days. Please include the following items each day of Phase In:

  • A written note of their way home with the date included
  • A lunch or lunch money
  • A nutritious snack and a water bottle
  • A full sized backpack

Your child’s classroom teacher will email you on Monday 8/16, prior to orientation, to introduce themselves and to give the classroom location for orientation that evening. Class lists will also be posted on the office windows of Thrasher after 4pm on 8/16.  Please make all efforts to attend orientation, as there will be a lot of Kindergarten and class-specific information given.
