09: A Top Performing School

Sept. 23, 2018

Dear Thrasher Families,

The state of Tennessee released more data about schools last week. You’ll be pleased to know that Thrasher is a top performing school yet again. When it comes to Math, Thrasher has the highest percent of students performing at Mastery and On-Track (previously called Advanced and Proficient). In Literacy, Thrasher has the second-highest percent of students performing at Mastery and On-Track. (Lookout Mountain slipped past us on this one this year.) Overall, which includes all subject areas and all grade levels, Thrasher has very high scores. We have the second-highest percent of students performing at Mastery and On-Track; Lookout Mountain’s percentage was one point higher than ours.

While we are very pleased with the results our students show, our main focus is “developing children with active and creative minds, compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs”. We have the best teachers for our students, we design engaging lessons for our students, and we depend on the support of our community for our students.

Thank you!

Austin Hatcher Collection

Attached is a flyer for the Austin Hatcher foundation. We are collecting loose change in unmatched socks to minimize the impact of childhood cancer on families.

Be sure to be checking PowerSchool each week (grades 3 – 5). This lets you see how your child is progressing through the quarter and the year! .

Walk to School Day

For many of you, every day is Walk to School Day. However, on Oct. 2nd, Thrasher is participating in a National Walk to School event. For those whose homes are not in an easily walkable distance from Thrasher, we will meet at the library from 7:15 to 7:30. We’ll begin walking at 7:30, and plan to be at Thrasher no later than 8:00am. Parents can park at the library until 9:00am.

Reflections Art Contest (PTA)

Flyers went home with all students on Friday to advertise the PTA Reflections art contest. Mrs. Fore will be stationed at the front door and will have a helper at the back car rider line door on November 6th (the due date for entries) to collect all submissions.
