Artist Visit

Alan Shuptrine is an incredibly talented local artist. He visited Thrasher this week to donate a book of his paintings, I Come From A Place. The paintings of our mountains and people are absolutely stunning. (I especially liked the portrait of Fletcher Bright.) He put out 9 colors of paint on the table – 2 reds, 2 blues, 2 yellows, a green, a sepia, and white – and demonstrated how he makes his very life-like water colors for the kids. At a time of thanksgiving, we are so thankful for Shuptrine’s gift of his book, his time, and his talents this week.Artist Alan Shuptrine Visits Thrasher

Art Teacher

We have interviewed a few candidates for the art teacher position, and we have one more interview tomorrow. We hope to have very good news for you soon. We’ll let you know as soon as we find the right person to lead our children in the love and experience of art.

Giving Tuesday

The Mountain Education Foundation is incredibly important to Thrasher students. Without it, we wouldn’t be interviewing for art, we wouldn’t have the technology support, and we wouldn’t have extra reading support for kids. In fact, in these regards, we’d be like most other schools in Tennessee.

But, we’re not like other schools in Tennessee. Nolan and Thrasher are the highest performing schools in Hamilton County, and SMMHS is one of the top ten in the entire region.

Approximately 25% of families at Thrasher, Nolan, and SMMHS give to MEF, and 100% of students benefit from those gifts. We would love for every family to join in support of our community’s schools – at any amount.

As an example of the impact that many people make, $20 per Signal Mountain student = $50,000 for our schools! Giving Tuesday is December 3, but you don't have to wait... Invest now at

If you're already a donor- thank you!! Encourage your friends to join you!

Facilities Survey

You may have received an email from Hamilton County Schools about a facilities survey. (You may recall the recommendations made by MGT about Hamilton County School buildings last August.) The community can access the survey at   The survey will be open until Sunday, December 15.  The survey will include some details to explain current recommendations from MGT in the survey.

All the best,
