Phase-In Days

Hamilton County kindergarten students do not come to school every day for the first week of school. HCS (Hamilton County Schools) uses a “Phase-In” approach in August.

At Thrasher, kindergarten students are not placed in a specific teacher’s class until after the first two Phase-In Days are completed. The kindergarten teachers spend Phase-In getting to know the students. Then they use the screening scores and observations of each student to place them in the class they feel is the best fit for the kindergartener.  The phase-in schedule is as follows:

August 7th- First Day of school for everyone except Kindergarten
August 8th- Kindergarten Phase In Day 1 (Last names A-L will attend school 8:40am-3:40pm)
August 9th- NO SCHOOL FOR HCDE (Teacher PD Day)
August 12th- Kindergarten Phase In Day 2 (Last names M-Z will attend school 8:40am-3:40pm)
August 13th- NO KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS (Teachers will assign class rolls)
August 14th- Kindergarten Phase In Day 3 (1/2 of homeroom class will attend school 8:40am-3:40pm)
August 15th- Kindergarten Phase In Day 4 (1/2 of homeroom class will attend school 8:40am-3:40pm)
August 16th- All kindergarteners come!

Kindergarten Screener

All rising Kindergarten students will be screened during phase-in this year.

Screeners are not a qualification tool. Teachers will use data to best serve each student in the beginning weeks of kindergarten.

If you feel that your child would benefit from receiving a “jump start” to kindergarten, consider registering them for Summer Reach for Rising Kindergarteners that will take place at Nolan Elementary!

Summer Reach for Rising K

Summer Reach for Rising K is a 4-week summer program for rising kindergarten students. During these four weeks, students will learn daily routines and expectations for being a kindergarten student at their school.

Summer Reach for Rising K Information

This year, Summer Reach for Rising K Students will be held at NOLAN ELEMENTARY.

Students will meet Monday – Friday for a full day of activities. NOLAN will provide you with the hours for your child’s program. It is the expectation that students attend every day to benefit most from the program. During the 4-weeks, parent sessions will be held regarding kindergarten readiness and things you can do at home to ensure your child is kindergarten ready. We have 20 powerful days of learning planned to provide your child a “jump-start” to the 2024-2025 school year. We are extremely excited to bring Summer Reach for Rising K to our newest students! We look forward to working with you and your child as he/she begins their school career.

School Supply Kits!
Thrasher participates in a School Supply Kit fundraiser that is very helpful to parents and teachers. The kit will ship directly to Thrasher. Teachers really appreciate this, as it helps in finding our specific supplies more conveniently. It will save you a trip to the store and our Thrasher PTA will receive a small reimbursement for every kit ordered! All you need to do is click this link using this code: 12391 and order the supply kit for KINDERGARTEN. Thank you for considering ordering this way. Deadline for ordering kits is April 26th!
